Contrary to popular belief, KZN has much more than sea and sand to offer.

An easy, 3-hour, scenic drive from Durban or just under seven hours from Johannesburg is where you'll find incredible game reserves offering the real-deal in bush experiences.

Rhino River Lodge, a 23 000 hectare private game reserve, is a Big 5 safari lodge situated in the Zululand Rhino Reserve along the shore of the Msunduze River.

An area renowned for its African wildlife and rich cultural heritage, the reserve was the proud recipient of a population of endangered black rhino as part of the WWF Black Rhino Range Expansion Project and has had much success in the conservation and protection of these animals.

Guests find themselves in the wildest of African settings as they enjoy game drives as part their Rhino River Lodge stay. 

Expect sightings of the Big Five and many other African animals, birds, and wildlife. The drives happen in the early morning and late afternoon when the animals are more active. Enjoy sundowners at the most awe-inspiring bushveld spots and personal touches from the owners and staff ensure as relaxing time.

Walking trails aimed at the more adventurous guests who want to be totally immersed in the wilderness can be arranged at an extra cost. A variety of Day Tours, Art & Culture as well as Educational Tours can also be arranged locally for guests of the lodge.

Accommodation at the Rhino River Lodge includes two family cottages that can accommodate up to four people. Each cottage has two double bedrooms (one is a second story loft-style room), a shared bathroom, a living room/kitchen, tea and coffee making facilities, a fully stocked mini bar, and a private boma. The facilities are perfect for a small family that would like to share accommodation or groups of friends that would like a little extra space. The are also four double en-suite luxury rooms. Each room has either one double bed or two single beds covered by a large mosquito net, with a bathroom, a sitting area, and a private veranda. The rooms have tea and coffee making facilities along with a fully stocked mini-bar.

If you go:

A 3-day escape at this luxury lodge includes all meals as well as two game drives per day with complimentary drinks and snacks - all other drinks are not included.
The lodge is able to accommodate a maximum of 18 guests at a time. The lodge facilities include acurio shop, dining room with bar, lounge, and swimming pool. Guests are also treated to delicious South African cuisine served under the skies at the boma or in the dining room.
