Lonely Planet: simplifying travel

2012-05-16 13:23

Less than a year ago Lonely Planet and Visa joined together to create a travel microsite packed with expert information on destinations and the best way to access money abroad. This year, the site has been updated with new content and destination information for six new destinations including the United Kingdom, Tanzania, Seychelles, Rwanda, Mauritius and Kenya.

Travelers thinking about planning their trip can access essential information through one comprehensive resource which combines Lonely Planet and Visa's specialist knowledge. The site is packed with essential travel services including an ATM locator, suggested trip itineraries and a calendar of events for each destination. Visitors to the site can also refer to ‘Ask the Expert' questions regarding their trip and receive individual tailored responses from Lonely Planet.

"When we first launched it last year, we had destination information for 12 countries - namely Australia, China, Croatia, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, the UAE and Ukraine," says Ross Jackson, Head of Cross-Border Business for Asia Pacific, Central Europe, Middle East and Africa at Visa. "The new additions show a strong focus on the African continent in the new markets we have chosen, as we recognise the strengths of these markets as tourism destinations."

Another great planning tool for travelers is a free desktop application which includes a countdown clock, local weather and currency information as well as regularly updated links to tailored promotions before departure. In addition, a series of 18 "Just Landed" destination guides are available to download from the site. The guides offer travelers essential arrival information from Lonely Planet on each of the specified destinations, including useful phrases and must see sights.

Lonely Planet's Director of Client Solutions, Ushma Patel explains: "." Travellers often come to Lonely Planet with queries about the best way to access their money abroad and so this partnership allows us to combine our trusted travel advice with expert information from Visa, bringing together all the information that travellers need

Travelers can access the specially designed microsite at www.visa.com/lonelyplanet where they will find advice and information on how to access their cash in the 18 destinations around the world.
