Excessive secrecy in Inspector General of Intelligence appointment

30 March, 09:43 AM

Parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence recently conducted secret interviews for the position of Inspector General of Intelligence. Lobby groups called for the process to be made public. Watch the video above to find out why.

According to the Right2Know Campaign, The Inspector General is a public ombudsman with a mandate to investigate abuses of power in the intelligence structures at the request of any member of the public.

For this reason, the appointment of the Inspector General should be transparent, says Karabo Rajuili from the M&G Centre for Investigative Journalism

Jerusha Sukhdeo-Raath spoke to Rajuili about the issue.
