Rape culture blames victims, normalises violence – experts

Every day, news headlines feature stories about incidents of rape and sexual assault in communities across the country. Although rape is incredibly prevalent, many offences go unreported.

The country’s “rape culture” that blames victims and supports male sexual dominance is contributing to the problem, according to experts from Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust and the Gender, Health and Justice Research Unit at the University of Cape Town.
