WATCH: SA researcher explains why his rare disease makes him 'superhuman'

05 August, 02:25 PM

Only around 100 people have the rare-disease Timothy Dreyer has. Now, the 25-year-old PhD researcher is working at finding treatment for sclerosteosis. Watch.

Because of a rare gene mutation, the bones of those living with sclerosteosis are so dense they can generally walk away from accidents that would leave others with shattered bones. Dreyer has been called "superhuman" because of his disease.

However, the disease often results in severe hearing loss and sometimes fatal cranial pressure.

Watch as Jerusha Sukhdeo-Raath speaks to Dreyer.
