Family expresses devastation over Sinoxolo Mafevuka's killing

11 March, 10:54 AM

Nineteen-year-old Sinoxolo Mafevuka's half naked body was found dumped in a communal toilet on Tuesday, 1 March 2016. According to reports, her head was resting on the toilet bowl and some of her garments were stuffed in the cistern.

On Thursday, 10 March the teen's cousin told News24 reporter Thulani Gqirana that the police were only visiting them because of the media. No arrests have been made in connection with the brutal attack on the teenager, whose family will bury her in the Eastern Cape this weekend.

Sitting in the tiny blue shack where Mafevuka grew up, cousin Dan Mtala said the family was heartbroken because the teenager had been a "beautiful soul".

"She was a quiet, wonderful person. This came out of the blue. We are in pain. We don’t know what happened."

Meanwhile police in Tokai, assisted by a private investigator, have made comparatively swift progress in arresting suspects in connection with 16-year-old Franziska Blöchliger's brutal murder on Monday, 7 March 2016. They appeared in court on Friday, 11 March.
