Despite odds, Darryn August hopeful he will walk again

Jennifer Sanasie speak to Darryn August, the man who was stabbed and thrown from a moving train during a robbery on April 25. August has undergone spinal surgery, but the doctors say he might not walk again. Find out how August is processing this realisation.

"I'll always give it a good try, and look at the cup half full," August says, "it doesn't matter what they say," as he explains his perseverance to overcome the odds.

August was on his way to work as a facilitator on April 25, when nine men boarded  the carriage he was in and began to rob passengers, including a heavily pregnant woman. August stepped in and was subsequently assaulted and thrown from the train. When he was thrown, it is reported that he hit a tree, resulting in him breaking his spine. August has recently undergone spinal surgery, and says the surgery went well.
