Gauteng is now the epicentre of the Covid-19 outbreak in South Africa, with more than 600 recorded cases. This week we speak to Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku about the province's readiness to handle the virus. Listen.WATCH

As South Africa enters its 22nd day of a nationwide lockdown, aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19, there is still very little information about how the country will transition from the current status quo to normality.

On Thursday, Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said some of the measures the government put in place during the lockdown would remain in force after

"When we do stop the lockdown, we cannot do it abruptly - that today it's complete lockdown and tomorrow it's open completely. We have to phase in, so that there is an orderly move towards normality," said Dlamini-Zuma.

The lockdown regulations include a travel ban, school closures, a ban against large gatherings and the prohibition of the sale of alcohol.

"Probably every week we are going to be announcing which areas are going to be opened, incrementally, and the conditions of those openings," said Dlamini-Zuma.

In this episode of ...One More Thing, a weekly podcast hosted by News24 senior political journalist Tshidi Madia, she chats to DA interim leader John Steenhuisen.

Earlier in the week, the DA announced a "smart phase strategy" for the lockdown, involving four stages, in the hope of circumventing an "economic collapse".

The strategy is similarly to a load shedding schedule, Steenhuisen said, adding that it allowed different lockdown strengths relative to data on hand, such as the number of new Covid-19 infections and resources at hospitals.

Steenhuisen joins us to unpack his party's lockdown strategy and discuss what the current lockdown means for the DA's 2020 federal congress - where the party's highest decision-making body is supposed to elect new leadership.
