This week on POLOTIKI, we look at the top stories dominating the political landscape.

We discuss DA chief whip John Steenhuisen's qualification scandal and ask whether the party's support for him amounts to a double standard.

The battle between the EFF and Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan continues to escalate, with Gordhan filing criminal defamation, crimen injuria and incitement of violence charges against EFF leader Julius Malema.

Malema retaliated by filing a criminal case against the minister.

On Wednesday, former head of the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) Mzwanele Manyi appeared again before the state capture commission of inquiry where he said that The New Age (TNA) and ANN7 were "punished" by the private sector.

He claimed the private sector's roleplayers "hunt like a pack" because they offered an alternative voice to the mainstream media.

Manyi bought TNA and ANN7 from the Gupta family in 2017. The media companies went under about a year later.

News24 senior politics reporter Tshidi Madia and News24 assistant editor for in-depth news Pieter du Toit also discuss ANC national chairperson Gwede Mantashe and former mineral resources minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi at the state capture inquiry.

Mantashe revealed that Gupta-linked Oakbay Investments wanted the ANC to put pressure on South Africa's banks to reopen the company's accounts.
