She wasn't into drugs, says Gabriela Kabrins Alban's father

27 May, 12:06 PM

Howdy Kabrins, father of the American marketing executive who was found murdered in a Camps Bay hotel suite in 2015, says his daughter was not into drugs.

Sitting down with News24 this week, the bereaved father told Erin Bates he was shocked and dismayed by the tabloid stories that emerged after his daughter's gruesome murder.

Gabriela Kabrins Alban was staying at a five-star Camps Bay resort with her boyfriend, Diego Novella Dougherty, when she was brutally assaulted and murdered in July last year.

The father told News24 his only daughter was in South Africa to seek alternative therapies for Lyme disease, a bacterial infection carried by ticks.

Kabrins emphasized his daughter's weak physical condition. He added she was very sick when boyfriend Dougherty "lured" her to Cape Town (see here).

On Tuesday, Cape Town Magistrate Grant Engel denied Dougherty bail saying he was a great flight risk.

The accused, whom some have described as a playboy with a trust fund, is in custody at the hospital wing of Pollsmoor prison.
