Six light vehicles and four trucks were torched and damaged, while two truckers escaped with minor injuries following an attack allegedly by striking plastic industry employees.

Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) firefighters from Kempton Park responded to the scene at Spartan on Steel Road around midday on Tuesday.

"Initial information stated that one truck was well alight, but on arrival the scene was different. Three extra trucks were also found engulfed by flames. Backup was called," said Ekurhuleni EMS spokesperson William Ntladi.

"The fire was extinguished and extensive damage averted from other vehicles parked nearby," he added.

The truck drivers were taken to hospital in a stable condition.
