WATCH: Armed robbers steal man's watch in Pretoria

04 July, 11:42 AM

Police in Brooklyn are investigating a case of armed robbery after a man had his watch stolen at gunpoint - in broad daylight.

A video of the incident, shared on social media, shows three men having a conversation in what looks like a parking lot.

A dark Mercedes-Benz sedan pulls into the parking lot and makes a three-point turn. When it comes to a halt, a man jumps from the vehicle and runs toward one of the men.

He appears to be armed. The two other men run for cover.

The incident happened on Thursday, June 28, at 14:30.

Police spokesperson Colonel Lungelo Dlamini told News24 that a 55-year-old man had been standing outside a car dealership where he works in Newlands, Pretoria, when a brown Mercedes-Benz stopped in the parking area.

An unknown man exited the vehicle and pointed a firearm at him, demanding his watch.

"The man pushed the firearm away and, in the process, lost his balance and fell down," Dlamini said.

"A second armed suspect also exited the vehicle, and again instructed him to hand over his watch.

"The man removed his watch and threw it down. The suspects picked it up and drove away."

According to Dlamini, no shots were fired and the man was unharmed.

It was widely reported that the watch was a Rolex, but Dlamini denied this.

"The suspects are still at large and only got away with a wrist watch, worth no more than R2 000," he said.

He asked that anyone who could assist the Brooklyn SAPS with information to contact the station at 012 366 1735/6.
