WATCH: Bicycles worth R1.2m stolen in under 3 minutes

15 February, 08:30 AM

Two break-ins in the space of a month have cost Complete Cyclist in Bryanston about R3.1 million.

During the latest robbery, just before midnight on February 7, various road and mountain bikes and 30 pairs of Oakley sunglasses were stolen. The stolen bikes included Specialized, Wilier, Pivot, and Silverback.

CCTV footage of the break-in shows three vehicles pulling up in front of the Bryanston store.

James Barnes, branch manager, says the thieves gained access to the store by hitting the shop front window with bolt cutters and then throwing a rock through the shatterproof glass to break it.

Within a couple of minutes the bikes are carried out of the shop and loaded into the vehicles.

It is not clear how many people were involved.

Out of the 18 bikes taken, six were recovered, but were severely damaged. The damages for this break-in amount to R1.2 million, said Barnes.

The first break-in happened on January 10.
