WATCH: 'Blood Friday' – Communities affected by gang violence give Gauteng premier letter of demands

12 October, 04:44 PM

Residents in Gauteng communities affected by gang violence marched in Johannesburg on Friday to hand over a letter of demand to Gauteng Premier David Makhura. Watch the video above.

The march was organised by the Gauteng Shutdown Coordinating Committee, which dubbed the day "Blood Friday".

"Blood Friday is about those people who have lost their lives," the organisation's Anthony Williams said.

Makhura received the letter of demands and assured the crowd their concerns would be addressed.

"What I want to do is to do a number of things; to convene meetings between my cabinet and you will make sure that we will sit down together with those you will mandate," said Makhura. "And then from there, we're going to be rolling out a programme."
