WATCH: Brazen truck thieves steal over R65 000 worth of lotion in 4 minutes

27 August, 01:39 PM

A video circulating on social media shows a group of swift robbers stealing from a truck in central Durban.

The incident took place early on Thursday morning at the loading dock of the Arrow Cash & Carry in Greyville.

In the video, a group of men can be seen pulling up to the truck in a white Hyundai H1, opening the seals and then quickly removing a number of boxes from the truck.

The truck belongs to transportation company Sumtas Bulk. According to Sumtas fleet controller Sashnam Sunnylall the truck had been carrying cosmetic products from Johannesburg.

Sunnylall told News24 that the driver had arrived at the loading dock of the store more than an hour before the warehouse opened.

"They took about two pallets worth of lotions from the truck in less than four minutes. At this point we're looking at around R65 000 to R70 000 worth of goods taken."

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane, the driver was made aware of the attackers and alleged that one of the suspects were armed.

"The complainant decided to lock himself inside the vehicle and the armed suspect attempted to open a passenger door but failed."

Zwane confirmed that a case of robbery had since been opened at the Durban Central police station and three suspects had already been arrested. They will appear in court on Monday.
