WATCH: Chilling account of killings in Hammanskraal

27 May, 12:33 PM

Sam Tshabalala's brother Elias was killed during altercations between Red Ants, demolition workers and Hammanskraal residents on Monday. Two people were killed, one burnt to death.

Community members staged demonstrations after shacks were destroyed on Monday. After the protests made headlines, government officials and politicians from the Democratic Alliance (DA) visited the three affected sites.

Sam Tshabalala told reporters, including News24's Karabo Ngoepe who filed this video, that his brother received no training prior to their day's work with a security company contracted by the City of Tshwane to carry out the evictions.

The Tshabalala family said Elias made ends meet working as a welder and temporary worker. His day's work in Hammanskraal was expected to earn him R150 but ended in tragedy for him and another piece worker, Lucky Nelushi.
