WATCH: Car wash attendant loses control of Fortuner, ploughs through Walvis Bay intersection

07 August, 12:04 PM

This runaway Toyota Fortuner caused chaos at a busy intersection in Walvis Bay, Namibia.

Video footage of the incident, which happened at 11:30 on Saturday, July 28 shows the Fortuner reversing into a car and a bakkie, before coming to a standstill against a wall.

The Fortuner then rolls forward, back into the intersection, smashing into the bakkie for a second time. It narrowly misses both the car it hit earlier and a second vehicle on its way back through the intersection. The Fortuner finally comes to a standstill at the petrol station.

The Namib Times reported that a car wash employee tried to reverse the automatic vehicle from the drying station to the polishing bay, but ended up reversing the vehicle at a high speed into the intersection of Hage Geingob Street and Rikumbi Kandanga Road.

A Puma Energy spokesperson confirmed the incident to News24.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at a Puma Energy service station in Walvis Bay, where the unauthorised driving of a customer’s vehicle led to minor damage," the statement read.

Puma Energy said steps were being taken to ensure the incident did not happen again.
