WATCH: Coffin assault duo back behind bars till 2017

Theo Jackson and Willem Oosthuizen, the two white, Afrikaans-speaking men who allegedly forced a black man into a coffin, have abandoned their bail bid in the Middelburg Magistrate's Court.

The two accused will remain in custody until 25 January 2017 and have abandoned their bail application.

The State opposed bail when the two appeared in the Middelburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday morning.

Supporters of at least three political parties - the ANC, DA and EFF - rallied outside the court in support of the survivor

On Tuesday the EFF's leader Julius Malema publicaly criticised the clergy for neglecting Mlotshwa's plight.

While the EFF mobilised around the case, which the party considers racially fuelled, Mlotshwa attended court in ANC colours.

He also stood on stage at a party rally following the postponement.
