14 November, 06:09 PM

Thirteen bags of counterfeit goods valued at R700 000 was confiscated in Tshwane on Wednesday.

Executive Mayor Solly Msimanga led the multi-disciplinary operation in the Marabastad area.

Dubbed the Inner-City Rejuvenation Operation, the exercise included members of the Tshwane Metro Police Department, S A Police Service and the Department of Home Affairs.

As part of the by-law enforcement operation, shop owners were warned against displaying goods on the pavement, which blocked pedestrians in the highly congested area.

"Some of the successes yielded from this operation include the confiscation of 13 bags of counterfeit goods valued at R700 000, the recovery of 26 municipal dustbins and five notices issued by Municipal Health for trading without certificates of acceptability," Msimanga said in a statement issued after the operation.

He thanked City officials for their work and thanked businesses and residents who uphold by-laws every day, promising to monitor those who continued to break the law.
