18 April, 04:38 PM

A new nanosatellite, developed by Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and the French South African Institute of Technology will soon be launched into space.

The ZACUBE-2 is the second nanosatellite to be developed by CPUT and will track boats along South Africa's coasts and proactively detect forest fires from space, through an imager payload developed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.

Science and Technology Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane attended the ceremony to mark the satellite's send-off to India, from where it is expected to be launched in July.
