17 August, 03:08 PM

It took about 50 seconds for a group of armed thieves to hijack three men in Asherville, Durban, on Wednesday night.

A video circulating on social media shows the suspects approaching in a silver Toyota Corolla, quickly getting out and pointing their weapons at the victims. A few seconds later, they make a clean getaway with the Mercedes-Benz of one of the victims, along with other personal items.

A case of carjacking has since been opened and is being investigated by Sydenham SAPS.

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said that the incident took place at 19:45 on Wednesday.

"At gunpoint, they demanded car keys and ordered the victim out of his vehicle. They fled with his white Mercedes Benz, cellphones and other belongings," she said.

The police are still searching for the suspects and the stolen vehicle.
