CAPE TOWN - Watch as President Jacob Zuma provides oral answers to written questions from ANC and DA benches.

In his last appearance in the National Assembly on May 17, Zuma faced a hostile reception from EFF MPs. They were again forcefully removed from the House after they refused to let Zuma speak.

Answering questions in the National Assembly is one of the ways in which Parliament fulfils its obligation to oversee government decisions.

Scroll down for real-time proceedings from Parliament.

As explained in a parliamentary write-up sessions of questions for oral reply by the President "are limited to six and the maximum total time allocated for replies and supplementary questions is three hours."

MPs can submit urgent questions, which take precedence over all others that day. Urgent questions must meet specific guidelines and are only allowed at the discretion of the Speaker of Parliament.

The questions Zuma is set to address on Tuesday, 13 September concern service delivery, South Africa's prospects of being downgraded by ratings agencies and investor relations with Japan.
