WATCH LIVE | State capture inquiry: Former Transnet engineer testifies

17 May, 11:07 AM

Former Transnet electrical engineer Francis Callard took the stand on Friday at the commission of inquiry into allegations of state capture.

On Thursday, commission chairperson, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, said there appeared to have been a "blatant" disregard for processes put in place to protect Transnet against abuse, corruption and to minimise its losses.

Zondo was commenting on the evidence presented by Transnet acting CEO Mohammed Mahomedy.

Mahomedy outlined details of how procurement processes at the state freight and rail entity were flouted in the awarding of some tenders as well as other irregularities which appeared to have benefited Gupta-linked firms Regiments Capital and Trillian Capital.
