WATCH LIVE | Update on strict new regulations to curb coronavirus

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and other members of the national command council briefed the media in Tshwane on Thursday on new, strict regulations expected to be enforced in terms of the Disaster Management Act to curb the further spread of the coronavirus.

On Sunday, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a national state of disaster.

In the wake of his announcement, schools and universities shut down, travel bans were enforced and a number of ports of entry were closed.

Events were cancelled due to the prohibition of gatherings of more than 100 people and companies sent employees home to work remotely.

On Thursday, the president announced that the number of infected persons in South Africa had climbed to 150.
