WATCH: Mam' Winnie's Brandfort neighbours mourn her death

In 1977, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was exiled to the small and almost forgotten town of Brandfort in the Free State.

Despite heavy police surveillance, she was able to create change and lead the small rural community, facilitating the building of a clinic and a crèche. 

The news of her passing on Monday, April 2, has left many who loved and admired her heartbroken.

Members of the Brandfort community who lived in the town during Madikizela-Mandela's banishment shared their favourite memories of Madikizela-Mandela. WATCH.
