WATCH: Metro cop loses his cool after truck driver refuses to stop for police 'in the bushes'

A video of a Namibian-registered truck refusing to pull off the road on police instructions last week has sparked heated debates on Facebook.

In the video, the driver is seen complaining about being asked to stop "in the bushes" as a Tshwane metro police officer scolds him for blocking traffic.

Another officer then approaches the truck as the first officer stands his ground, preventing the vehicle from driving off.

The second officer can be heard swearing at the driver, threatening to break his phone before adding that "this is not f***ing Namibia".

When pressed for comment on the incident Tshwane Metro Police Department spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba told News24 that the department was aware of the video.

"Although we understand that at times truck operators are afraid to stop in unsafe areas due to past incidents, we encourage them to inform the police [of their apprehension] when stopped," he said.

"They must make a request for the police to follow them to the nearest police station or garage instead of refusing to stop without indicating their intentions."

Mahamba said the strong language the police officer uses was "clearly not acceptable".

"Our members should at all times treat members of the public and motorists with the respect they deserve," Mahamba said.

The Tshwane Metro Police Department said complaints should be reported to it for further investigation, and possible disciplinary action.

Members of the public can report complaints by calling 012 358 7095/6.
