23 May, 12:59 PM

Democratic Alliance (DA) Chief Whip John Steenhuisen says Parliament is "fundamentally broken" and clashesin the National Assembly are symptomatic of a broader problem.

Last Tuesday, members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) stormed through the corridors of Parliament after the party's caucus was removed by security.

A hard hat, water bottles and fists flew ahead of President Jacob Zuma's question and answer session

Steenhuisen says, "The scenes that we're seeing playing out in Parliament are symptomatic of a broken Parliament that needs to be fixed urgently."

He says the institution need deep structural reforms in order to be accountable to the public.
