WATCH | Police officer arrested on charges of intimidation, crimen injuria, and discharging a firearm

A 43-year-old police sergeant has been arrested on charges of intimidation, crimen injuria and discharging a firearm in a municipal place. 

This after a clip of his conduct went viral on social media. The incident reportedly happened on Charlotte Maxeke Street in Pretoria West on Wednesday evening. 

"An investigation is currently underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident," police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said in a statement.

Video footage shows the officer wielding what looks like a gun and at one point threatens to kill someone. Another man also alleged the officer had opened fire on them. 

"It is alleged the arrested police officer drew his firearm and threatened the complainant," Peters said.

Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has ordered an urgent departmental investigation into the sergeant's "unbecoming conduct".

"Such conduct is in direct contravention of the SAPS code of conduct and disciplinary regulations," he said.
