Police have noted with concern a video being circulated, showing police officers manhandling a woman. It was alleged that the incident happened at the client service centre at a police station in the Sedibeng District in Gauteng on Saturday afternoon. The video shows two policemen dragging a woman across the floor. One officer then proceeds to strike her across the face twice.Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has since released a statement condemning the incident and has sanctioned an urgent departmental investigation."Whatever measures that will be taken, will be guided by the outcome of the investigation," the statement read. The officers in the video have been identified but the identity of the victim remained unknown as well as the circumstances surrounding the incident. In his statement, the commissioner re-emphasised a zero-tolerance approach by SAPS towards gender-based violence."Hence the call for the departmental investigation to be treated with the necessary sensitivity and urgency," the statement said.
