President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the family of slain Tazne van Wyk on Tuesday in Cape Town.

The body of the 8-year-old was found in a stormwater drain near the N1 outside Worcester last week.

The man accused of kidnapping and murdering the child, Moyhdian Pangarker, appeared briefly in the Goodwood Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Pangarker is alleged to have committed the crime while out on parole.

Ramaphosa apologised to the family and the residents of Connaught Estate, where the child lived.

"We are sorry, as the government, that a person that shouldn't have been released on parole was released," Ramaphosa told the crowd.

"That shows that there is something wrong with our parole system," he added.

Pangarker will be back in court on April 17.
