WATCH: Stellenbosch land invaders take their fight to court

21 August, 04:03 PM

Land invaders who built shacks on private property in Stellenbosch say they will not be moving because the land was stolen by the whites.

A group of people currently residing on land owned by the trustees of Louiesenhof Wines in Stellenbosch gathered outside the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday to protest against a second eviction order.

Midas Wanana, a leader of the group of people living on a portion of the land called Watergang, said they had collected and put together money to appoint a lawyer to help them fight back in court.

They say it is their right to stay on "Azania" – the name they have given the land which formed part of a larger farm called Koopmanskloof.

The matter was postponed to August 29.
