Quick-thinking 24/7 security services officials apprehended a man accused of stealing three blocks of cheese from food and clothing retailer Woolworths on Tuesday afternoon. 

The incident happened at the Nicolway shopping centre in Bryanston. 

Nicolway's general manager, Gavin Baldson, told News24 the suspect tried to escape on foot but did not make it far after Woolworths alerted 24/7 security officers who apprehended him.

"The suspect ran off but was caught at the exit gate. He was taken back to Woolworths who then called the police," he said.

"Woolworths pressed charges of shoplifting against the man. The incident happened at around 15:00. The suspect was taken to the Randburg police station."

It confirmed a suspect was arrested for alleged theft.
