WATCH | 'We are not protected as you are Mr President - our children are doing the dying’

A group of protesters gathered outside the Goodwood Magistrate's Court on Friday morning where Moyhdian Pangarker, the man accused of murdering eight-year-old Tazne van Wyk, briefly appeared.

Fadiel Adams of the Cape Coloured Congress told News24 the people of Elsies River in Cape Town were living like prisoners because of "animals" like Pangarker.

The crowd repeatedly chanted "enough is enough" and "we want justice" outside the court.

They also accused President Cyril Ramaphosa of "sleeping".

"If her name was Unathi, [President Cyril] Ramaphosa would be here. If she was from Constantia, Ramaphosa would be here, but no, she's from Elsies River, her life means nothing," Adams said.

He called for the death penalty to be reinstated.

A mob went on a rampage, setting alight at least two houses in Parow, after Pangarker's court appearance.

"People who live in gated communities should not speak for people who don't have fences," Adams said. "We are not protected like you are Mr President. Our children are doing the dying."
