According to the Rising Sun Lenasia and an independent police source contacted by News24 three of four suspects entered the property.

After tying up two workers on site, and locking them in a bathroom, it's alleged the three attempted to ransack the house.

Meanwhile a fourth suspect waited in a getaway vehicle outside. A neighbour and his brother were alerted to the armed robbery.

They rushed to the scene and a shooting ensued.

"The neighbour is a CPF member," a police source told News24. "These guys were armed, one was in the getaway. When he approached him they opened fire."

Soon tens of community members were on the corner of Lark Street, some of them armed and taking cover behind parked cars.

"Kill him, baba!" shouts one. "Just shoot him," cries another.

Later exasperated residents prevented paramedics from reaching the injured suspect who survived. He was allegedly assaulted by community members.

“They kill our people there,” shouts a witness near the ambulance. “Our guy, our guy’s dead."

Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed the surviving suspect was in hospital under police guard.

The force supplied a photograph of firearms said to have been found on the scene.

A case of murder, attempted murder, attempted house robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition was open.
