FIFA corruption probe - Mbalula denies SA involvement

28 May, 03:16 PM

During a live press briefing on Thursday, Sport and Recreation minister Fikile Mbalula issued a statement refuting allegations that the SA Government paid a bribe to secure the rights to host the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Watch his full statement.

According to the minister, all 2010 Soccer World Cup funds were accounted for and audited, and the government was yet to receive an indictment from US prosecutors involving South Africans.

This followed Wednesday's revelations of the US Justice Department announcing conspiracy and corruption charges against nine FIFA officials and five business executives, after Swiss authorities arrested seven suspects based on the indictments.
