South Africa's first gay rugby tour becomes a reality

06 December, 02:58 PM

Jozi Cats, Africa's first competitive gay and inclusive rugby club, are embarking on a crowdfunding initiative for their #BTheWhistle on Homophobia in Sport #GayRugbyTour through South Africa.

The Jozi Cats kick off on Friday in Johannesburg and then make their way through the country via Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth and down the coast to Cape Town.

The Jozi Cats are also engaging with the LGBTQI communities en route to host "Big Gay Rugby" Days out and encourage these communities to start their own gay and inclusive gay rugby clubs.

In addition they'll be playing a touch rugby match against a new club that has started in PE, and then play a round-robin tournament in Cape Town with a local team as well as a newly-formed Stellenbosch Club.

Jozi Cats member Chris Verridjt tell us what this means for gay rugby in South Africa. Watch.
