Kim Jong-Un possibly in China for what might be his first foreign visit

27 March, 02:50 PM

There is strong speculation that North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-Un, is in Beijing.

A distinctive olive green diplomatic train, similar to one used by Kim Jong-Il on his visit to China in 2011, was seen arriving in Beijing. The South China Morning Post is reporting that the train left little over two hours later, but the Chinese foreign ministry has yet to confirm the visit by Kim or any North Korean delegation.

If the rumours are true, this would be Jong-Un's first foreign trip since coming to power in 2011. Undoubtedly, South Korea, Japan and the US will be monitoring the situation very closely.

Regardless of the nature of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's visit to China, there is general hope that North Korea and the US can build on the de-escalation of tensions that followed the Olympic Games in South Korea.
