The first Ford Mustang Bullit sold for R3.6-million

Detroit - Ford gave Mustang fans something to salivate on when it released a modern version of the Bullitt Mustang at the Detroit motor show.

You might recall the Bullitt 'Stang from the movie of the same name starring Steve McQueen.

Ford built the model to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the movie and in a nice touch has donated the first 2018 Mustang Bullitt to be auctioned to raise funds for McQueen's school.

It sold for R3.6-million. Well done Ford.

The information from the auction:

"Lot #3006 - Ford Motor Company and the McQueen estate are donating VIN 001 of the new limited-edition 2019 Mustang BULLITT for a special charity auction benefitting Boys Republic, Steve McQueen’s own school. The BULLITT features a V8 engine that packs more than 354kW and 570Nm of torque to push the car to 262km/h max speed.

"Saluting the 1968 movie car, the Dark Highland Green exterior paint is complimented by subtle chrome accents, a 12" all-digital LCD instrument cluster and Recaro black leather seats (optional) with unique green accent stitching. VIN 001 will be built in mid-2018 with all available options."

"100% of the hammer price will go to Boys Republic, a private, nonprofit, nonsectarian school and treatment community for troubled youngsters. Since its founding in 1907, it has guided more than 30 000 at-risk teenage boys and girls - including Steve McQueen - toward productive, fulfilling lives."
