WATCH: F1's Alonso appears on stage as Toyota announces return of Supra sports car

Toyota unveiled the latest incarnation of the legendary Supra moniker at the Detroit Motor Show as company president Akio Toyoda drove the car on stage and met by Formula 1's Fernando Alonso.

Petrolheads the world over rejoiced when plans were set in motion to revive the fifth-generation of the legendary performance car.

Who better than Alonso

Toyota has been having great success in motorsport recently as they clinched the Dakar rally title and also their maiden victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans last year.

The Supra is powered by a 3.0l twin turbocharged straight-six engine that produces 250kW and 500Nm while running to 100km/h in four seconds.
