Kabul - The Nato military coalition in Afghanistan says two of its service members have been killed in an insurgent attack in the east of the country.

The military alliance says the attack happened on Saturday but doesn't provide further details.

Nato also did not provide the nationalities of the dead. Most of the troops in eastern Afghanistan are American,

Saturday's deaths bring the number of international service members killed in Afghanistan so far this month to at least 42.

July 2011 saw 52 international service members killed.

Really sad. Is this so called \war on terror\ worth it. ?? Unnecessary killings on both sides. Its more \ war of terror.\. Unfortunately, ego, and hunger for power, and resources ,leads to these wars

Let's remember how this started. Jihadists declared war on the US and freer world when Saudi Arabia allowed Nato to use its bases to repel Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait. That was in 1992. The US and freer world were shocked into action by 9/11. They had allowed the Jihadists to strengthen and create a base of operations for themselves in Afghanistan. Many of the Jihadists attacks between 1992 and 2011 went unanswered. Jihadists are extremely repressive. They oppose any kind of progressive change, and believe women are the chattel of men. For example, during their rule of Afghanistan, no girls were allowed to go to school. They behead anyone who merely appears to disagree with their views, or differ with their way of life. Not that war is desirable. Clearly it is not. However, when a group of crazed killers wages war on you, what do you do? The freer world did nothing, until the whispers became shouts. I agree there will be a point when there will be diminishing returns from responding to their war with force. I don't believe that time is now. When it comes, I believe Jihadists will need to be given territory of their own, like Oranje in South Africa, within which they can practice their way of life. Provided they do not contravene human rights, and live peacefully with their neighbors.

Clearly, you're highly prejudiced against the US, and blinding yourself to true reality. Like Fidel and Patrick, you hold an immature anti-West core-belief. Everything is the West's fault. The result: hundreds of thousands of Muslims are being slaughtered by unelected dictators and Jihadists RIGHT NOW. Hello! Wake up. You also assume that you speak for everyone. You don't. You only have authority to speak for yourself.

"Oh Please Fred, this started with America's Foriegn Policy! WE all know that". Your words.

You really have twisted yourself into a prejudiced, delusional net of irresponsible lies, Salma.

Israel was created in 1948 from 52% of the land formerly occupied by the Jewish and Palestinian people, and Palestine 43%. Most of the Israeli territory was the Negev Desert. Jerusalem fell into neither territory. Palestinians, with their unelected, self-serving neighbors declared war on her the very next day. In the 1960's they invaded Israel twice. Full military invasions. The result: Israel survived and pushed them back, gaining territory in the process. This is the origin of what you wrongly call the occupied territories. There have been almost daily attacks by Palestinians, incited by their self-serving unelected backers. Palestinians even teach their children at Kindergarten to attack Israel, rather than be peaceful. Children. Kindergarten. Think about this. From day one, and even today it's wage war on Israel. Sure, Israel has gone too far on occasion in defending herself. But there is no doubt who the aggressors are. You just have to open your eyes and let go your immature anti-West core belief that's been sold to you. All that needs to happen is for Palestinians to choose peace side by side with Israel. This is more likely going forward now because the unelected dictators are being removed from power by their people one by one. They will no longer use the Palestinians for their own internal political ploys.

That's not possible for long as you choose to hold that immature anti-West belief. It blocks true reality. It's like me believing Muslims are crazed, cold-blooded, murderers, and asking you to prove me wrong. There's no proving this as long as I hold that immature, faulty belief. You have to drop the belief first. Then a balanced, truer reality will appear to you, in place of the distorted one you're choosing to hold, which incidentally has been sold to you by the very unelected dictators and Jihadists who are killing and maiming Muslims wholesale. If you want to see a truer reality, you have to mature, think for yourself, feel for yourself, not allow yourself to be led by tribal loyalties that have been corrupted.

      This is to Salma

Just saying it doesn't make it true. You're still poking through your immature anti-West lenses. I understand you can't see it. Your Higher Self will try stronger now to get this through to you. Look out for it within the next 72 hours.

Hey now, hey now, all you posters - and great essay writers (with apologies to Carlos Santana). Time both sides learned that history, facts, percentages etc are really cute and totally remote ways of dealing with human suffering. You're all so embroiled in the emotion of it that it's become academic, philosophical, totally unproductive. There are real, living people out there who want, need and deserve a future. Apply your collective minds, just once, to SOLVE the problem. Instead of lobbying blame and hate back and forth.

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-07-29 03:28

Being embroiled in emotion, and being academic/intellectual is an oxymoron.
