# 59% of Germans view Israel as 'aggressive'

2012-05-23 14:06

Berlin - Most Germans view Israel as "aggressive", according to an opinion poll released on Wednesday ahead of a state visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories by Germany's president.

The survey conducted by Forsa for Stern news magazine found that 59% of those questioned viewed Israel as "aggressive", an increase of 10 percentage points over a similar survey in January 2009.

Seventy percent said they believed Israel pursued its interests without consideration for other nations, Stern said in a pre-release of its Thursday edition, up 11 percentage points from three years ago.

And 67 years after the end of the Nazi regime, 60% said Germany had no special obligation towards Israel, while a third believed the contrary, according to the survey of 1 002 people conducted on 15 and 16 May.

After tensions over Jewish settlements and a critical poem, new German President Joachim Gauck is due to make his first state visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories from 28 to 31 May.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been sharply critical of the Israeli government's settlements policy in east Jerusalem and the West Bank, calling it an obstacle to fruitful peace talks with the Palestinians.

And last month German Nobel prize-winning author Gunter Grass sparked outrage when he published a poem in which he said he feared a nuclear-armed Israel "could wipe out the Iranian people" with a "first strike" and described the Jewish state as the region's biggest threat to peace.

Although his work came in for widespread condemnation in Germany, a subsequent move by the Israeli government to declare the 84-year-old author of The Tin Drum a persona non grata was also roundly criticised.

Well if you read Isr. News the constant debate is which Arab Country should be attacked next. And don't give me the BS about 4th of July rockets being fired into Isr. The Warmongers in Iraq were Perle, Krauthammer, Wolfowitz, Lieberman,Rumsfeldt. On false premises. We killed 100,000 + Innocents destroyed a country and spent \$1 TRILL.

Tony Lapson - 2012-05-23 15:39

So full of bs facts.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 15:44

It's the usual false response and false information from you James. Israel acts in self-defense to the almost daily attacks on her by the Palestinian people, who are armed and incited by the very "Arab countries" you mentioned. Everyone who's been following this story with a clear mind knows this. When the Palestinians choose peace side by side with Israel, they will have peace and prosperity. Not before. Israel has to defend herself. Obviously. As to your statement about 100,000 "innocents" killed and a country destroyed, this is more delusion and misinformation. The US did not target a single civilian or civilian structure in Iraq. On the other hand, Al-Quaida and the Taliban intentionally did and THEY are responsible for HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of civilian deaths and maimings, with their car bombs and suicide attacks. THEY have attempted to destroy the country, not the US. The US has spend billions on modern infrastructure for the country. As long as you attempt to distort reality you demean yourself, your credibility and the information you post here.

Guy - 2012-05-23 16:29

@ Fred Why do you suppose that Israel has to defend (used extremely loosely)? Perhaps its the land grabs or the fact that they are the wardens of the largest open-air prison on Earth? Palestine has every right to want what was taken from them - their humanity. You talk of being armed by Arab countries - Israel is back in massive quantities by the US, I suppose this is alright? The only way forward for this region is reconciliation by both Israel and Palestine, this will never happen because the Jewish population will be the minority and therefore loose power and be pushed aside - in essence they open their doors and they will loose their country. The hundreds of thousands of civilians died in Iraq in what we all know now was a bogus war - there where no WMD's etc etc. Put it this way, if a power invaded your country on false information, are you as a citizen going to stand back and watch? I would not, I would fight for my country. Your comment about "The US did not target a single civilian or civilian structure in Iraq" is laughable - the majority of civilians died, not from conflict, but from the after affects of the massive bombing raids on water purification plants, power plants etc etc - a strategic mastermind especially if you have Halliburton waiting in the wings to rebuild... Perhaps viewing the situation from an objective view instead of swallowing what the main stream media outlets serve up as truth will bring about a change in your views.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 18:20

Firstly, look at a map of the Middle East. The tiny, tiny strip of land in the continent of so-called Arab lands is Israel. This is what you are bitching. Secondly, everyone with a clear mind knows Israel defends herself against the almost daily attacks from Palestinians, backed by UNELECTED dictators in the regime, who don't believe she has a right to exist. Israel is a sovereign nation, recognized by the international community in 1947. Israel and Palestine were created from land cohabited by the Jewish and Palestinian people. In the division, approximately 52% of the land became Israel (much of which was the Negev Desert) and 43% Palestine. The balancing figure was Jerusalem, which fell into neither territory. It was fair division based on the land's historic habitation. Unfortunately the Palestinians and the self-serving UNELECTED dictators in the region opposed the division and declared war on Israel the very next day she was created. They've been attacking Israel ever since. In the 1960's they did so by full military invasions. Israel managed to survive and pushed the invaders back. By the rules of war, she got to keep the territory that she pushed the invaders from. This the West Bank and Gaza. Thus the Palestinians have lost some of their territory because of THEIR aggression, not Israel's. Israel is willing to trade that territory for peace side by side with the Palestinians. Unfortunately the Palestinians still are not.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 20:14

Majority where? And name your source.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 22:00

The majority of those Germans polled viewed Israel as aggressive.

• Loo - 2012-05-23 14:18

Tony Lapson - 2012-05-23 15:41

Ludlowdj supports hitler.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 15:45

Ludlow, you're an ignorant racist and bigot. As long as you hold these anti-social views, there's no place for you in our world, nor should there be.

Tony Lapson - 2012-05-23 16:05

See ludlowdj even deleted his comment xD

• Mfundi - 2012-05-23 14:24

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 20:29

I'll remember you said this Michael :)

• Ted - 2012-05-23 15:04

I maintain my stance. Israel will be isolated by its stupid belief that it is special. Its not. Its just another country with a sad history and which should just use that for the goodness of mankind and not the opposite. Did the Nazi victims really die for the Israel of today? It can't be correct even in a hurricane. I wish there could be another Israel which can understand that for it to be a country, it needs others.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 15:47

Unfortunately EVERY religion holds this belief.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 18:23

In theocracies it amounts to the same thing, Patrick.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 18:50

"Theocracy is a form of government in which the official policy is to be governed by immediate divine guidance or by officials who are regarded as divinely guided, or simply pursuant to the doctrine of a particular religious group or religion." [Wikipedia]

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 18:56

In your racist opinion. You're on record stating that "the world would be a better place if Jews were removed from all walks of life" and "Israel is a Nazi bastard child".

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 19:03

No Patrick, your words are on these threads for all to see.

jaba.kov - 2012-05-24 08:45

Not only did you write those words around 3/4 months ago Patrick… you repeated them for over a week. Most I am sure were deleted by the editor – but they were written on numerous times (along with other racists who use their democratically given freedom of speech to hurl their abuse). However, I’m not sure why you care so much… Just the fact that you think Israel is racist in itself is just another one of your blood libels. You do not believe Israel has a right to exist so I for one never take you comments sincerely anyways. On the other hand you can not call Fred a liar for words you have written… unless you truly have forgotten, Alzheimer’s maybe, but I doubt that.

Larry - 2012-05-29 12:57

The problems between Israel and the Arab world are purely for religious reasons. One of the main tenets of Islam is to conquer and convert the non-believer. Suddenly a Jewish state is born in the heart of Islamic dominance and Muslims have been frothing at the mouth ever since. A simple example is that between 1948 and 1967, Jordan annexed and occupied the West Bank. There was no complaint from the local Arab inhabitants. Only when Israel pushed Jordan back to their side of the river, did Palestinian nationalism awaken after Israel occupied the territory. Israel has not annexed this territory, so these Arabs of the West Bank are stateless and definately not Israeli citizens, and they never will be. Israel has annexed East Jerusalem, and even those Arabs who were residing there at the time, are now blissfully happy to be part of a modern, democratic, caring nation of Israel. As we have come to know full well, Patrick is actually Lesego, a delinquent ANCYL supporter of limited intellectual capacity.

• Rashida Patel - 2012-05-23 15:13

Wow!The Germans have finally seen the light.Congratulations

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 15:47

Unfortunately you haven't. Still.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-24 01:59

Rashida, do you still support your own stoning?

Larry - 2012-05-29 14:58

Wow! you are still so in the dark, Rashida.

• carol.hodes.1 - 2012-05-23 15:22

Well the Germans are the last people to talk. Their history of persecution led to all of this. If the Jews had been left in peace to begin with then this dilemma would not exist. If you had nothing and were then given land to begin your life with. Built it up where nothing had been before, you would be mightily angry if they then wanted to take it away again. People need to see it all in context.

Tim - 2012-05-23 16:06

Well then carol - if the Palestinians were \left in peace to begin with then THIS dilemma eould not exist !!\

jaba.kov - 2012-05-23 16:33

Tim - In 1946, Jordan became an independent sovereign state for the Arabs (British lands). 1948, Palestine was supposed to be an independent sovereign state for the Jews. The Jews named the land Israel rather than Palestine. The Arabs went to war and lost. The 'Arab' Palestine was born in 1966. If you think I am making this up please explain to me how there could have been a Palestine without a; capital? Currency? Economy? Citizenship? armed forces? Post office? etc The truth is that the ‘Arab’ capital was in Amman, and the Arab lands were Jordanian. In the quest to get more land from the ‘Jewish’ side the PLO created the Palestinians. In fact, during WW2 the British called the Jews Palestinians, while the Arabs they called just that... Arabs.. Facts don’t lie.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 18:24

Tim, you're obviously misinformed about what is really happening. I recommend educating yourself because arriving at this obviously wrong conclusion.

ludlowdj - 2012-05-24 10:08

If the Jew had not called for a boycott of all German goods prior to WW2 and had they not declared war on Germany, they would not have been targeted at all.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-24 17:08

Ludlow, you're a disgusting genocidal racist, the lowest of the low of humanity. Until you change you have ZERO to add to the positive evolution of humankind.

• fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 15:34

Israel aggressively defends herself against the almost daily attacks on her by Palestinians who are backed by autocratic regimes in the region. Sometimes she goes too far, for sure, but she acts in self-defense. Always has.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 18:25

In your racist opinion. Remember, you're on record stating "the world would be a better place if Jews were removed from all walks of life", and, "Israel is a Nazi bastard child".

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 18:50

It's on the Isreali threads for all to see.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 19:01

No, your statements are there. This is the Information Age. You can't hide what you say.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 20:28

Patrick, I'm not going to do this for you. All you have to do is use your browser, and remember the countless times I and many others have pointed your racists statements out to you. It should be clear to you from the lies and obfuscations you're doing bellow about insults that you're not an honest person right now. You can change this. Only you can do it.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 22:13

You're totally against insults? This is why you're not trustworthy, Patrick. Only you can change this.

AnthonyfromAfrica - 2012-05-23 22:33

Score; FRED================10 PATRICK==============O

ludlowdj - 2012-05-24 10:11

So you contend that the act of assassination is in reality an act of self defense do you. The end does not justify the means.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-24 17:11

That in my view is the going too far part of Israel's self-defense. The completely disgusting and unacceptable part of your expression of consciousness is your genocidal racism. You're a low human-being at present, very low.

• Rob - 2012-05-23 15:37

Israel. Great country, great people. Innovative, progressive. Surrounded by enemies on all sides. Remind me so much of a pre 1990 south africa. Sigh ! Perhaps not as aggressive as they should be. Viva Israel.

dave.kofang - 2012-05-23 17:08

Apartheid was defeated but people like are nostalgic about the good old days.Get over yourself.Apartheid in Israel will also be defeated.

boaz.yarmarkov - 2012-05-23 17:21

dave, The Palestinian Liberation Organization's Ambassador to the US Maen Areikat said that any future Palestinian state must be free of Jews. now that is Apartheid.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 18:38

I thought you were against insults, Patrick. No?

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 18:51

Are you or are you not against insults?

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 19:04

More lies from YOU. This is what you said above: "You are an out an out liar. Prove what you say. SOB." Everyone knows what an SOB is.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 20:16

SOB and A Hole are not insults? Patrick, what are you thinking man. Do you not understand that your words are pasted here in print for all to see. You can't say things and pretend you didn't. The Information Age demands that you be responsible, which unfortunately at present you are not.

• jaba.kov - 2012-05-23 15:45

haha clasic. In the 1930's Germany told the Jews to leave Europe. In 2012 they are telling them to leave the Middle East…

Heinz - 2012-05-23 16:53

They didn't tell them to leave, they also didn't tell them to leave europe. They killed them

boaz.yarmarkov - 2012-05-23 17:04

Agree jaba. Heinz...I think over a ten year period it went like this; 1) you may not live amongst us as Jews. 2) you may not live amongst us period. 3) you may not live.

• pasi.kaarretkoski - 2012-05-23 15:56

Germany and german people should finally get over what happened 60 yrs ago! They owe absolutely nothing to Israel.Todays germans cannot be held responsible for what their grandfathers did.Israel just cleverly uses this against everybody who critizes their actions,if you dare to question anything they do it makes you automatically a racist or nazi sympathiser.

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 16:05

Everyone with a clear mind only goes as far as criticizing Israel for over aggressive defense on occasion.

jaba.kov - 2012-05-23 16:38

The trade and tourism between the two countries is proof that Israelis harbour no animosity against Germans or Germany. However, Israeli's can not accept people that tell them not to use self defence in order to save their own lives (in other words - commit suicide).

Larry - 2012-05-29 13:07

Israel can count on Germany as one of its strongest allies. Thanks Germany

• Tim - 2012-05-23 16:07

Germans are smart !!!

fred.fraser.12 - 2012-05-23 16:13

To the extent that they are referring to aggressive defense, yes. Anything more than this would be faulty.

jaba.kov - 2012-05-23 16:39

very smart!

Larry - 2012-05-29 13:10

Israel can count on Germany as one of its strongest allies. Thanks Germany. Lesego, you force yourself upon us as would a disrespectful child butting into adults conversation. We cannot help that but you have our derision. Smart you may think you are, but everybody knows that you are not at all very smart.

• jaba.kov - 2012-05-23 16:21

FYI, about that word 'aggressive' Israel does wish it had neighbours that accepted them for who they are (not Muslim). But the Arab world is too racists to allow a non Islamic entity in the Middle East and as such Israel has “aggressively” defended herself from 6 wars and decades of terrorism that have been directed against her.. The Israeli people would like to apologise to those 59% of Germans for not losing a single war (maybe for Germany coming 2nd twice in a war is OK, however, for Israel, winning in non negotiable. Life and death is cliché but a truthful reality for Israel.

Tony Lapson - 2012-05-23 17:27

I feel like this statistic is more: 59% of Germans accept the holocaust past and are paranoid that Jews will want revenge, thus automatically assuming they are aggressive.
