Activists accuse Israel of using tasers

2012-10-21 22:02

Jerusalem - Pro-Palestinian activists from a Gaza-bound boat intercepted by the Israeli navy have accused troops of tasering them when they took over the vessel, their lawyer said on Sunday.

The Israeli army immediately denied the claim.

"They used electric shocker devices to the extent of what we call 'electro torture' on some of the activists," said Gaby Lasky.

It was not immediately clear how many of the 30 activists and crew on board the Estelle were shot with the stun guns, which use an electrical charge to incapacitate a person.

But Israeli army spokesperson Avital Leibovich denied that the soldiers had used "violence.

"No force was used when taking over the ship," she said.

Saturday's takeover ended the latest attempt by pro-Palestinian activists to breach Israel's tight maritime embargo on Gaza which prohibits all naval traffic in and out of the coastal territory.

Israel says its blockade is necessary to prevent weapons from entering the coastal territory, which is run by the Islamist Hamas movement.

  • frank.cornelissen.1 - 2012-10-21 22:33

What did these brain dead liberal trash expect when they wanted to enter Israel with ill intent? They must have been shot point blank for terrorist activity and should be on their stupid knees thanking Israel for their remarkable restraint!

      frank.cornelissen.1 - 2012-10-21 23:12

Fidel, take your bunny hugging BS and go and play in the traffic! Imbecile!!

      Frank Cornelissen - 2012-10-21 23:39

Fidel, the only lies here are the ones you are spewing as just as your boss, Zoomer, you lot run on lies and deception and are incapable of telling the truth!

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-10-22 08:20

This is so bizarre that I have difficulty grasping the fact that a living, breathing, "thinking" adult said it. Daft comment, complete and utter rubbish!

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-10-22 08:42

      Clear cold incisive logic, brilliant!

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-10-23 07:19

Believing Nelson Mandela is a phony, a lackey of the West, a modern-day Unlce Tom is logical how?

  • albert.m.burger - 2012-10-22 05:03

What is the most useless thing to scream when you are an activist and being hauled off to who knows where? "you can't do this, i have got rights!"

  • Zak Desai - 2012-10-22 05:25

israel are rogues, they want to steal the land of the muslims...if 'king david' were alive i'm sure he would be a just ruler. please man, leave our land alone go find somewhere else!

      larry.lachman.54 - 2012-10-22 06:41

Correction, it is already stolen. Get used to it and suck it up because snivelling is unbecoming of Islam.

      moses.mabhida.52 - 2012-10-22 08:26

Israel not muslim land was jewish 3000 years before the birth of islam. From Morocco to Afghanistan, from the Caspian Sea to Aden, the 5.25 million square miles of territory belonging to members of the Arab League is home to over 330 million people, whereas Israel covers only eight thousand square miles, and is home to seven million citizens, one-fifth of whom are Arabs. The Jews of the Holy Land are thus surrounded by hostile states 650 times their size in territory and 60 times their population, yet their last, best hope of ending two millennia of international persecution, the State of Israel has somehow survived. When during the Second World War, the island of Malta came through three terrible years of bombardment and destruction, it was rightly awarded the George Medal for bravery; today Israel should be awarded a similar decoration for defending democracy, tolerance and Western values against a murderous onslaught that has lasted twenty times as long.

      richard.bosmano - 2012-10-22 09:47

Maybe if all the arabs went back to arabia, there would be peace in the mid east. Violent expansionist imperialistic genocidal land theives talking trite of Gods chosen folk and THEIR land. King David would have sorted these followers of an illiterate out quickly

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-10-22 10:06

Maybe if all the European Ashkenazis went back to Europe, there would be peace in the mid east? The Sephardic Jews lived at peace with their neighbours, the former are terrorists!

      larry.lachman.54 - 2012-10-22 18:56

The Sephardic Jews of Israel, who are culturally Arab Jews from Tunisia to Iraq, make up 60% of all Israeli Jews. They vote for the hardline right parties and comprise 80 % of 'settlers' in the West Bank, whereas the Ashkenazi Jews choose a more leftish liberal politics. The Sephardim will fight all the more for their Israel, since having been exiled from Arabia, there is nowhere else for them to go. The symbiosis is very strong between these two groups because each needs the other more.

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-10-22 20:11

Somehow, you seem to have totally missed Hyperbole and Cant and gone straight for Reason. Odd behaviour, but there you are.

Fidel believes Nelson Mandela is a phony, a lackey of the West, a modern-day Uncle Tom. With this sort of thinking and logic, what on Earth can he possibly offer that will add to anyone's knowledge.

  • Gatvol Griet - 2012-10-22 06:23

Good if they did... what are these 'activists' doing there, causing and inciting unrest and violence in someone else's country; stirring them into killing and being killed.

      moses.mabhida.52 - 2012-10-22 08:49

Is that a picture of Fidel?

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-10-22 09:31

Is Gaza Israeli country? You have got to rethink this and stop the idiocy, it is so ludicrously ignorant it would be laughable if it weren't so tragic!

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-10-23 07:24

Is Nelson Mandela a phony, a lackey of the West, a modern-day Uncle Tom? More idiotic and ludicrous than this does not exist.

  • danny.levin.351 - 2012-10-22 06:36

Over thirty thousand dead (civilians, women and children), over half a million refugees. a quarter million dissapeared in Syria yet no one talks about them. IF these people really wanted to give humanitarian help they would have sailed to LATAKIA (Syrian port). However, the Syrian navy does not use tazers on civilians. they use deadly force, and plenty of it. This boat was not about humanitarian help (which is and can be delivered to Gaza via Israel) but about creating an incident to paint Israel in a poor light. Turquey is also a good example. their PM criticized Israel for launching an attack after years of continued firing of rockets and bombs from Gaza on ISraeli civilians. but after 2 artillery shells were fired form Syria in an apparent error he ordered his troops to attack. This is typical of the detractors of Israel, they are happy to ignore a real humanitarian disaster as it is happening in Syria but use every opportunity to attack Israel. Israel is actually acting too benevolently towards a sworn enemy; Gaza receives fuel and just about all its supplies from Israel. Israel even supplies Gaza with electricity from its national grid. Palestinians even enjoy the use of Israeli hospitals. Only last week a palestinian kid who was electrocuted was treated in an Israeli Hospital. I'd say that very few (if any) nations would be so nice towards people who are constantly attacking it. So there you have it. Using tazers was a very light measure.

  • David - 2012-10-22 06:46

All you guys need do is ask Fidel and Ziyaad if they ever feel remorse for the barbaric acts committed in the name of Islam, such as the cutting of Daniel Pearl's throat, the targeting of women and children by suicide bombers on buses and shopping malls, shooting rockets indiscriminately and doing so from civilian populated areas etc, and they usually run away and don't answer those questions. You can also ask them if the the Jews have a right to a homeland in Israel or if they believe in a 2 state solution. Because they don't truly believe in peace and never answer these questions that's usually when they say the topic is dead and run away. Fidel and Ziyaad know that a Jewish presence in Israel is totally demeaning to the religion of Islam. Thank G-d Israel is strong, other wise every Jew in that area would have had their throat slit by barbarians whose actions Fidel and Ziyaad would gladly condone.

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-10-22 08:23

Just cheap caricature reliant upon a series of assumptions that are common enough, of course, but still pretty much useless. That and sweeping assertions based on anecdotes.

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-10-22 18:48

Poor Josh, it's called a diversion, a Zionist tactic that doesn't work with me, a poor one at that as it makes a lot of faulty assumptions, but a diversion nonetheless, which is why I haven't dignified it with any response related to its insinuations.

The absolute height of cheap caricature than presenting Nelson Mandela as a phony, a lackey of the West, a modern-day Uncle Tom. Fidel's exact words in the US/Mandela thread several weeks ago. To Patrick, the mad unelected dictator Moamar Gaddafi, who amassed billions of dollars belonging to the Libyan people, and killed, detained, tortured and raped tens of thosuands of Libyans because they wanted to vote, will always be an African hero.

      larry.lachman.54 - 2012-10-23 11:09

Just as Robert Mugabe is Patrick / Lesego's African hero, as claimed by him a few months back. And this eggplant wants us to believe that he is a white South African who did his National Service during the apartheid years. Pffft.

  • thefat.canarie - 2012-10-22 08:17

I cant understand why this story gets publicized. In SA people are murdered in their homes each day...and our vile government does not think its a problem when black people murder white people... or that their ethnic cleansing in the workplace continues by means of blatant racism through the dark and corrupt principles of BEE ..this needs publicizing....people are being tazed in the US each day...especially criminals fleeing crime scenes...Inciting violence in another country and being tazed for it is far too humane....the Israeli government should have bombed the boat!

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-10-22 08:41

      Larry - 2012-10-22 08:58

Israel is the polecat for vermin, not sane human beings. The real skunks are those Islamic dictatorships who fester as open sores of tyranny and social instability.

  • daniel.kagan.9 - 2012-10-22 15:07

@Fidel. Your ignorance betrays your anti semitism once again. I am a proud jew of ashkenazi descent. That does not make me a terrorist anymore than it makes the average arab person a terrorist. You are very close to trotting out that hoary old lie that Ashkenazi jews are not jews so you cannot therefore be anti semitic. You also have caught yourself in a logic trap. You say that Sephardic jews have always lived at peace with their neighbours. You realise you refer of course to the continous presence of jews in the land of Israel since time immemorial. You also refer to the 850 000 odd Sephardic jews who were expelled from Arab lands such as Yemen,Egypt,Tunisia and others when Israel declared its independence in 1948. I look forward once again (in vain I guess) to a meaningful reply from you.

      moses.mabhida.52 - 2012-10-22 19:54

Is Fidel & Patrick the same person?

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-10-22 20:02

Ashekenazi are not biblical Jews indeed, and that is fact. They are terrorists because they are the ones that brought terror in the Middle East, killing Palestinians and chasing them from their homes( this is well documented and I have provided the details before re the the Irgun and Stem Gang), the reason that Arab countries reciprocated by chasing Jews from their countries. I do not discount the presence of biblical Jews in Israel and the right of Jews to have a homeland in Israel, but Palestinians (Arabs) have lived on those lands as well. "Jewish villages were built in the place of Arab villages. You do not even know the names of these Arab villages, and I do not blame you because geography books no longer exist. Not only do the books not exist, the Arab villages are not there either. Nahlal arose in the place of Mahlul; Kibbutz Gvat in the place of Jibta; Kibbutz Sarid in the place of Huneifis; and Kefar Yehushua in the place of Tal al-Shuman. There is not a single place built in this country that did not have a former Arab population." -- Moshe Dayan

Fidel knows virutally nothing of any worth. His thinking is distorted by highly immature anti-West rhetoric and 1950's political parardigms that are defunct. Hell, he even believes Neslon Mandela is a phony, a lackey of the West, a modern-day Uncle Tom. Imagine that. His exact words in the US/Mandela thread. What can a person offer with that sort of obviously faulty, even crazy perspective.
