Africans' home torched in Jerusalem

2012-06-04 14:02

Jerusalem - Four African migrants were taken to an Israeli hospital with burns and smoke inhalation on Monday after a deadly arson attempt on the Jerusalem building in which they were living, police said.

The incident, which police described as "very serious", took place in an old two-storey building in a poor neighbourhood near the city's Mahane Yehuda market, just after 03:00.

Police said the fire was started in a narrow entrance corridor which led to several apartments inside the building, home to 18 African migrants. On the external walls of the building, someone had sprayed Hebrew-language graffiti reading: "Get out of the neighbourhood."

"There were 18 people living in the building, and the corridor leads to all the apartments," police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld said, indicating that all the residents were of African origin.

"It is obvious that the people living there were targeted and not just the building," he said, adding that at least four people were taken to hospital, suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.

The attack took place in a small street off Jaffa Road, with the building's entrance corridor completely blackened by the fire, an AFP correspondent at the scene said, indicating it was the only entrance and exit from the apartments.

60 000 illegal immigrants

The rising number of Africans in Israel has hit the headlines in recent weeks, after a spike in racial tensions led to a riot in southern Tel Aviv, where tens of thousands of migrants live.

The incident occurred when a protest by 1 000 people turned violent after several far-right MPs made inflammatory speeches, with one referring to the migrants as "a cancer".

Demonstrators went on the rampage, smashing up and looting African-run shops and property.

No one was injured, but police arrested 20 people on suspicion of vandalism.

Interior ministry statistics show there are approximately 60 000 African immigrants who have entered Israel illegally. Some are refugees fleeing persecution in their home nations, but others are economic migrants.

Israel continues to expose Arab Muslim racism and Islamic fascism.

      Larry - 2012-06-06 21:05

You dont have discussions Lesego. You just crave to be relevant, which you falsely achieve for yourself by having others respond to your inanities here. It is not the first time you cry for Fred. What is the matter? Do I not validate you enough? As to your comment. You are a typical example of 'where fools rush in'. It has no meaning and it is not substantiated. What do you mean by: "Israel chooses to exposes its self as the cancer of the middle east."?

      Larry - 2012-06-07 21:21

Oh please, I have never seen such a stupid string of words put together as an argument. Do you read your own nonsense? "if Israel tried to exist using peaceful means..." Are you soft in the head or something? Do you have the feintest grasp on reality to make such a dumb comment? where is your mother - go tell her that she failed you.

      Larry - 2012-06-08 20:09

You cannot compare the South African scenario with the Israeli conflict with the Pestinians and the Arab Muslim world. In South Africa, all race groups were within the borders of South Africa and all were citizens, excepting that non-white race groups were not free to participate in the government of the country. Pre 1994 South Africa was not a democratic society and the Minority race group took unfair advantage over other race groups, economically and socially. This is not the case with Israel. In Israel, and since inception, all race groups and religions were given the freedom to vote and were equally free to participate in government and civil society. Hospitals, social services, and even education were available to all, notwithstanding that Muslim children went to Muslim government schools and Jewish children went to Jewish government schools, with non-denominational schools existing for all and sundry. There is no conflict and upheaval between Israeli citizens whatever their race or religion. You purposefully mix up the Palestinian conflict with Israel, with Israel proper. As stated above, all South Africans were SA citizens, whereas the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza are not, and never were Israeli citizens. The West Bank Pestinians and especially those in the Gaza Strip (and their Muslim state backers) are intent on deligitemising and removing Israel, and continuously prove this by engaging in terrorist attacks and major wars (7 since 1967). Continued below:

      Larry - 2012-06-08 20:14

Continued: And you ignorantly think that Israel should undergo a peacefull transition as did South Africa. Israel is peaceful within its borders. Its problem is with its neighbours who are not. Or perhaps you are suggesting that Israel must not defend itself from rocket fire, suicide bombers, or the next largescale attack from the Arab muslim countries that support the Pestinians. You will be insulted when you continuously espouse lies and dumb half-baked opinions.

      Larry - 2012-06-08 21:50

Fact: 60% Of Israeli Jews are Arab Jews who were kicked out of Arab countries from Tunisia to Iraq. Jews in Arab countries were discriminated against by apartheid laws to the extent that there are no more Jews in Arab countries. Today, Christians in arab countries, excluding Israel and some progressive Muslim countries, are discriminated against by apartheid laws. Not in Israel. All are equal citizens. The Pestinians will be friends of Israel when they finally relent and accept Israel's terms of peace. This is the reality, whereas you are proposing something that will not happen. The world cannot make it happen.

      briek.lig - 2012-06-12 00:49

Unbelievable !!! AND very very interesting. Israel was prominent in its condemning actions against (white, successful) South Africa. Now all of a sudden Israel also prefers its own Apartheid !!! Sick, two face bastards !!!!!!

  • buti.lembe - 2012-06-04 17:55

Israel is one of the worse country that is addictive in drinking more blood day and night. I wish all Africans can live that country b4 it's getting worse.

      Larry - 2012-06-04 18:46

Warped logic from both above. Buti, if your sirname is Lembe, then you are possiblly from the Lembe tribe who have strong Jewish links and heritage. A genome study of the Lembe was done recently and it was found that 9% had semitic DNA. You should look into it... or not.

      Larry - 2012-06-04 21:18

Local Israeli inhabitants, who may be of any faith, are angry that their neighborhoods are being over-run by illegal immigrants who live in squalor due to their financial difficulties, layabout due to the inability to get legal employment, bring elements of criminality due to their desperate situation etc etc. For the similar reasons that South Africans attacked and killed over 60 kwerekwere in our not so distant past. This is not the action of Israel the country. This is the actions of ordinary people becoming fed up with a worsening situation that affects their safety and contributes to the deteriration of their neighborhoods and property values. Does that answer your question, or are you also going to say that I am lying?

      Larry - 2012-06-04 21:23

Correction to buti.lembe. Sorry, it is LEMBA not LEMBE. Anybody care to know more google "Lemba Tribe Jews". Sorry boet but you are not of the chosen people. (smiley face)

      Larry - 2012-06-05 19:39

Wrong on your last point Lesego. The xenophobic atrocities in 2007 post Apartheid South Africa were punctuated by horrific acts of mob killings. This story of an apatment block set on fire by some Israeli's is nothing in comparison. And if you want to make comparisons then do it honestly. Israel's brand of democracy is also very different to that of South Africa. In Israel, the government listens to its people and acts on resolving problems before they get out of hand. In South Africa, poor border controls and incompetent government has allowed for the free-flow of immigrants which compete for already scarce resources and jobs. Our government only listens to its people, there is no such thing in South Africa.

      Larry - 2012-06-05 21:02

Actually Lesego, if you read the story, Israeli police are not allowing these acts to continue and are protecting these immigrant communities from being attacked, and they are not atrocities on the scale of rampaging mob murder that happened in 2007 South Africa, where SA police and Mbeki closed their eyes and refused to admit to a crisis. The Israeli government is not allowing illegal immigrants and is putting plans in place to control it effectively. Read the story. A fence is being constructed along the Sinai border, along the same lines as that between the USA and Mexico. I dont know about you, but I would not be in that aparment block in Jerusalem because I reside legally in the countries that I live in.

      Larry - 2012-06-04 21:27

Interesting comment. What then made our own black South Africans hunt down, burn and murder over 60 kwerekwere a few years ago. Were these then the devils children who behaved so savagely towards fellow Africans.

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-06-04 21:31

If Palestinians, incited by unelected dictators, attack Israel almost every day, have been doing this for 60 years since Israel was created by the international community, and even teach their children to do so at kindergarten, and Israel defends itself, that's Jewish people becoming Hitler?

      Larry - 2012-06-05 21:05

Not at all stupid for the Israeli's, and the majority of UN member states in 1947 who approved Israel's creation.

      Larry - 2012-06-06 08:09

The Middle East was hardly affected. Look at the map of the Middle East. See all that massive landmass of Arabia. The names of every one of the Arab countries fit neatly within the space of the land they occupy. See that little dot - that is Israel and it is tiny in comparison. Israel is a national homeland for people of the Jewish religion, who have suffered two millenia of depravation and persecution culminating in the genocide of Jews known as the holocaust. Israel's presence in the Middle East does not affect anyone but the few Arabs who were displaced over 60 years ago. The only effect is that Islam now has a non-Islamic entity in its midst - a democratic free society which is not just thriving and successful, but super-thriving and super-successful. This agonises the Arab Moslems because it shows that their religion is weak and ineffective. Islam is all about expansionism and Israel is a thorn in the side of Islamic expansionism. If the Middle East cannot have a tiny Jewish state in the midst of their vast territory, then to hell with the Middle East.

      Larry - 2012-06-06 08:15

Further to the above. Imagine if all the countries in Southern Africa were majority Islamic countries. Imagine Lesotho was attacked by Zambia, Angola, Namibia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mocambique. This is the picture of the Middle East. What possible reason would these countries have, to warrant the elimination of Lesotho. Because it is a non-Muslim state, perhaps?

      Larry - 2012-06-06 21:14

You are a blatant and intentional liar, Lesego. You disgust me to the core with your filthy lies. You have been exposed and your hatred for Jews is hanging on the line for all to see. You will go to a special hell.

      Larry - 2012-06-08 10:00

I am very comfortable. At least I know that I am honest with myself. The holocaust for Jews is still very relevant and will remain to be so, especially for the present and near future, since Israel and Jews in general still have to contend with inexplicable hatred and persecution.

      Larry - 2012-06-08 20:22

Why, because Jews don't have to to take anybody's crap for a change, and are strong enough to slap down the Jew haters of this world. Get used to it. We are quite used to being disliked and diparaged, and if anything this make us more resolute and successful. Many think that Jews are naturally endowed to be successful, but you have made us to be so. We work harder at being smarter, so that we can overcome the ghetto you would have us live in.

  • Joseph - 2012-06-05 00:48

Wow just when I thought the Zionist regime couldn't get any worse they just prove me wrong. They are racist, murderous, repressive and now they add another trait i.e They are xenophobic. You have far right politicians labeling Africans as "a cancer". How shameful

      Larry - 2012-06-05 05:31

Wow, Joseph. Israel is not racist, repressive or murderous. You have just chosen to believe so, and little incidents like this (which happened wholesale in South Africa post Apartheid) give you pleasure because it confirms for you what you have chosen to believe. Israel is angelic compared to any other Middle east countries and is a non-racist, democratic and free country with a healthy ethnic and religious mixed population. Go and see for yourself and you will be proved wrong.

      Larry - 2012-06-05 21:07

Lesego, I accused you before of not knowing what the word 'Zionism' actually means. Please explain Zionism to all of us.

      Larry - 2012-06-06 08:34

Lesego, you are trying to be smart but it is not working for me, or anyone else. What do YOU understand about Zionism besides your belief that it is so bad? What makes it so bad?

      Larry - 2012-06-07 21:40

Just as I thought. You have not got a clue. Let me shred your credibility a little at a time. Firstly Zionism is a nationalist movement dedicated to ensuring that Israel remains a Jewish majority with a Jewish national identity. This is of importance because no other country in this world can protect the Jewish people better than a Jewish country run by a Jewish government with the best interests of Jewish people in mind. Zionists within Israel or elswhere on this globe are far from "radical religious people", but are ordinary Jews and Christians, religious or irreligious, and even atheist like myself. Zionists are not "dedicated to the separation of Jews from other people", but quite simply only dedicated to preserving Israel as a Jewish national homeland. If, as you say, Zionists control the Israeli government, and are dedicated to the separation of Jews from other people, then why is Israel full of Christians and Muslims who are treated as equal Israeli citizens by that self-same government? you negatives are not negatives, and your accusation about Jews and Zionism fit better with any of a number of Muslim states, if not all of them. Thanks for answering my question though. Try again.

      Larry - 2012-06-08 10:10

Your opinion is based on a lie and anti-semitic propaganda. It may have worldwide appeal, but free-thinking and knowledgeable people, worlwide, do not fall for mass appeal rabble-rousing lies. The reason why Israel and Jew-haters spit the word "Zionist" is because saying what they mean "F*&king Jew" will reveal their inexplicable hatred for Jews. All Israeli citizens have equal rights in Israel. Do not lie and clain otherwise. All Israeli citizens vote in elections. This does not happen in the Muslim countries that are at war with Israel. Turkey is a secular majority Muslim democracy and has strong European influences, thereby making it a peaceful and respectable nation with peaceful ties to Israel. Zionism is not what you believe it to be.

      Larry - 2012-06-08 20:33

You cannot quantify your majority and you cannot even speak for them. It is an unknown. The minority of people in this world are suitably educated and intelligent to refute your lies. the majority are somehow always on the wrong side of right. The billions of Indians, Africans Russians and Chinese alone do not even have an opinion on the matter, and if they were to venture one, it would be an ill-informed opinion. Israel does not matter to them. So that leaves the Muslim world versus the Western world. The Muslim world is far outnumbered, outgunned and outsmarted. Give it up. You cannot win.

      Larry - 2012-06-08 22:00

As I explained, the number is quite probably a majority for those involved. Those involved are the Islamic world on one side and all of the Western world democracies. The rest are too busy scrambling for a mouthful of rice, vodka or phutu to care about what israel does or doesn't do. Even if it were 20% as you say, the power and influence quotient is inversely proportionate to the numbers. This means that 20% is actually 500%, similar to the difference in Israel's population of 6 million compared to the 500 million Middle eastern arab population. The Arab Muslims get nowhere.

      Larry - 2012-06-09 23:22

There is only one way to look at it as far as Israel is concerned. Israel's existence depends on it. Israel's enemies, which is all of Islam, leaves Israel no choice.
