Bin Laden paid bribe for hideout

2012-12-26 10:34

Islamabad - Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden bribed a Pakistani land registrar to allow the construction of the fortified compound where he was killed by the US special forces last year, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Entries in bin Laden's diary detailed the payment, The News said.

The government official accepted about $515 to approve the permit for the compound in the northern town of Abbottabad, the report said.

According to the newspaper, the diary is now in the possession of Pakistani authorities. It was left in bin Laden's hideout after US troops took away thousands of documents, computer disks and other materials after the covert raid that killed bin Laden in May 2011.

The report did not identify the land official but said he had been interrogated.

Bin Laden was "well aware" of the alleged corruption in Pakistan's land record system and the bribe was given with his consent, the newspaper said.

The government took ownership of the land, and the house was demolished this year amid concerns that al-Qaeda sympathisers might regard the building as a shrine.

A murderer stays a murderer - So he got murdered - What you sow is what you reap..And that's for everyone and everything.....from all US presidents who killed to this low-life

  • avremel.niselow - 2012-12-26 10:56

That's a pretty low bribe for such a dangerous thing.

      smadingoaneng - 2012-12-26 11:09

yes maybe he was threatened also.

      les.bloomberg - 2012-12-26 11:15

In SA would have been enough to build a compound.

      andynct - 2012-12-26 11:19

Presumably the registrar didn't know it was Bin Laden, otherwise he may have asked a higher price.

      aqeel.ferreira - 2012-12-26 11:31

I travelled through Abbottabad in 2004 and was therefor not at all surprised that USA eventually found him there. The amount that man paid as a bribe: that is a lot of money for many Pakistanis.

      yar.wellnofine - 2012-12-26 14:33

@les.Bloomberg In SA compounds cost R200 Milliom plus.

  • Peché - 2012-12-26 11:17

why does that picture of Bin Laden look so fake... was this even a real person?

      Malose-Nyatlo - 2012-12-26 17:09

Al Qaeda have mourned their earstwhile leader and moved on by naming a successor.

  • andynct - 2012-12-26 11:18

OMG! Bin Laden bribed someone! Does that mean he was a bad man?

  • avremel.niselow - 2012-12-26 11:23

Tebogo, do you approve of the killing of 3000 innocent people?

      bobby.rosewood.1 - 2012-12-26 13:42

How about bombing in Bali, Nairobi, etc.etc. Killings just for the sake of their own distorted view of Islam, giving all Muslims a bad name too, although most Muslims do NOT approve, and Moslims were killed by him as well. So what did he accomplish? Nothing, only fear and hardship.

      ziyaad.adams - 2012-12-27 12:51

And the thousands of deaths in Iraq under the guise of finding WMDs, did you make a noise about that also? Or Israel's campaign of violence against Palestinian civilians? No...thought not. Because 3000 American lives are more valuable than these hundreds of thousands of 'camel-jockeys' in the Middle east ye? Hypocrites.

Any reasonable person will aggre with me that killing Osama was a good thing and the world is a better place without him.Let us all do our bit 2 change this world 4 the better,Stop drinking and driving, driving over the speed limit, these are small things that tells us a lot about yourself,I believe that if u are prepared to break these laws and kill one or 2 ppl in motor accident then u r no different 2 Osama

  • hilda.motshele - 2012-12-26 13:13

Mr Khutso i dont think that u believe what u just said about Osama not have done any wrong, out of those killed in the twin towers it could have been any1 from anywhere in the world,it could have been ur own brother, lets not allow hatred 2 cloud our judgement in things and let it not make us bad ppl, nothing shud stop us doing right dispite what was done 2 us

      ziyaad.adams - 2012-12-27 12:52

So what should happen to George W Bush for the deaths of the Iraqis under the guise of finding WMD's Hilda?

  • trotse.boer.5 - 2012-12-26 13:51

if it was fake why did he publicly announce it?? please read the news and follow the topic before replying in such a stupid and mindless manner, many people have lost families because of this guy and also he publicly killed people for minor offences in his country. he is evil and has no regard for life.

Please share your obviously superior knowledge and sources. Oh and where is the FW de Klerk hero statue? On Naval Hill not! I'd like to go and see it....

Which court found bin Laden guilty? Those who r detained in Guantanamo when r they going to b tried? After the Oklahoma city bombing they blamed Islamic terrorists but it was Mc Veigh an American. So he was a American terrorist? Why was bin laden not arrested since he was not armed? When are his wives going to be arrested for terrorism?

  • motleleng - 2012-12-27 07:58

Who cares???? JZ is still a president what WTF and he received bribes now he is building the same compound like Bin Laden....

  • mshiniboys - 2012-12-27 09:17

Bush must have paid a bribe to American people for them to be so blind to the fact that Bush himself hired people to fly a plane to destroy the twin towers on 9 11.
