Bin Laden raid was recorded - report

2011-05-13 10:28

Washington - The US commandos who struck Osama bin Laden's compound in an operation that killed the al-Qaeda leader recorded the raid on tiny helmet-mounted cameras, a report said on Thursday.

The 25 Seals that raided the compound in the garrison town of Abbottabad, Pakistan on May 2 were carrying the mini cameras, said CBS News.

According to US officials who have seen images of the 40-minute operation, the only firefight in the raid took place outside the main compound building, where bin Laden's couriers opened fire and were themselves shot dead, CBS reported.

Commandos then saw bin Laden for the first time after he appeared on a third floor landing, and they fired and missed. The terror chief then retreated into a bedroom.

The first Seal that entered the room pulled aside bin Laden's daughters who were there with him, while a second commando was confronted by one of his wives who either rushed him or was pushed in his direction, said CBS.

According to the report, that second commando pushed the wife out of the way and fired a round into bin Laden's chest, and a third commando then shot bin Laden in the head.

Speculation has swirled on the precise details of the raid that killed the world's most wanted man.

Earlier on Thursday it was revealed that the Central Intelligence Agency had begun showing US lawmakers photos of the slain bin Laden, which President Barack Obama insists are too gruesome to be released to the public.

Obama, I think you have put your entire nation at risk. Good for you now, but you should have captured him and got the truth of 9/11

      Born To Fish - 2011-05-13 10:43

I do not think so. They are always at risk.

      Mafaka - 2011-05-13 10:51

And then what... have al-Qaeda take numerous amounts of westeners hostage to have their leader released. Can you imagine the chaos that would have errupted. The world became a safer place the day this pig Osama was taken out. He had no respect for human life and did this all (9/11 etc) in the name of his religion. The truth is their are millions of muslims that dispised him just as much as everybody else. Any person that considers to take over leadeship from Osama now clearly can see what his eventual fate will be. I am not a huge USA fan, however I am aware of the fact that without the millitary might of the US and Europe the world would have been in a lot of trouble. And for that we have to say thank you

      Ingwe - 2011-05-13 10:56

And think about all the innocent people that could have been taken hostage by his lunatic mates, had their heads cut off, videoed and shown on TV when they tried to get him released. In my opinion he SEAL’s did the right thing by taking him down.

      nduk'zempi - 2011-05-13 11:09

      Seal Team 6 you beaut!!!!

      TGIL - 2011-05-13 11:26

      dont think then

      Ivan - 2011-05-13 11:47

What would that truth help now?

      mufasa - 2011-05-13 12:00

he aint dead he is chilling with Bush....

      matthew.mcnulty - 2011-05-13 12:32

What would this 'truth' be then? That it was a Israeli plot to get into war with Iraq? Put the US current account more in the red? For what reason? Oil? All the oil is supposedly in Saudi Arabia so why not start their war there then if they are all powerful and knowing to be able to engineer such a huge cover up? Get real! I don't see your conspiracy theorist's rationale at all here..

      slg - 2011-05-14 07:27

The truth is already known about 911, and a stack of valuable information was taken away from the house, that is being acted upon as we speak.

  • Born To Fish - 2011-05-13 10:42

Awesome! Would love to see that!

  • ? - 2011-05-13 10:54

Who cares? The man is dead.Whats up with all this information being released bit by bit? Why not release all information at once? Whats the next headline? Bin Laden was eating a doughnut when they entered,or he was watching Greys Anatomy? Geez man, this is boring now,yet with him dead,it still doesnt stop terrorism plots.

      Ingwe - 2011-05-13 10:59

If it boring then don't bother reading it or commentating on it

      ? - 2011-05-13 11:04

I read it because perhaps due to some miracle, they will have proper information, but alas......

      slg - 2011-05-14 07:18

Finding it hard to swallow No-name?

  • Currie_Mafia - 2011-05-13 10:55

    Bin there, bombed that....

  • Grayman - 2011-05-13 10:57

And this is news now???? It was reported within an hour of the raid that the Seals had helmet mounted cameras. Why is this news coming out now?

      DeonL - 2011-05-13 11:17

Yes it is old news, must be a slow news day.

      ? - 2011-05-13 11:17

      This is what I meant

  • Born To Fish - 2011-05-13 11:00

In Pakistand the service delivery is Brilliant! They take out the Bin on a Sunday.

      Da@Ismile - 2011-05-13 11:20

you rock man, now go back to the river.

      kubs - 2011-05-13 12:30

      Ha fk off

  • Mike or Mpho - 2011-05-13 11:19

What happened to to world courts, and putting him on trial? This whole thing smells

      ? - 2011-05-13 11:55

The west pretends to abide by rules but it doesnt. This was actually murder.Bin Laden had to be proven to be responsible in a court, but i dont think they can prove it.

      Sifiso - 2011-05-13 12:37

more like they never wanted him in court. He's a product of their own making

      slg - 2011-05-14 07:19

Mike, this was not a criminal matter, it was a matter of war. He and Al-Quaeda declared war on the US and freer world. The rules of war apply, not the criminal justice system.

      slg - 2011-05-14 07:20

Sifiso, I don't follw what you're saying. You're right they didn't want him in court. It would have put the world at greater risk. How do you get from them not wanting him in court to him being a product of their own making? There's no connection there.

      slg - 2011-05-14 15:52

No-name, who says Bin Laden "had to be proven to be responsible in a court"? This was an act of war. Different rules apply. And he and Al-Quaeda celebrated doing 911 many, many times and followed it up with multiple acts of terror that killed tens of thousands of civilians. Catch a wake up buddy.

  • kingswing69 - 2011-05-13 11:38

    old news

  • Rocky_III - 2011-05-13 11:42

How wierd is this. The man has been resonsible for killing thousands of innocent people indiscriminately. Now the bleeding hearts are all up in arms about the way in which the dog was taken out. I don't give a rat anout how he was done just that he was..... Bleeding hearts out there why not think about the victims and their families while you are bleating.

      lenand40 - 2011-05-13 15:23

You mean the thousands of people killed by American bullets in Afghanistan and Iraq, not to mention other countries where the US has killed the democratically elected leaders and installed murderous dictators?

      slg - 2011-05-14 07:23

I'm glad you've toned it down a bit Lenand, but you're still focusing on the wrong things. The Us and allied forces go to great lengths to avoid harm to civilians, and when civilians are harmed they feel awful, apologize and launch an enquiry to do things better next time. Have Al-Quaeda and the Taliban ever done this? No. And you have the gall to point fingers at the US?

  • Reg - 2011-05-13 11:55

I don't care who he was or what he allegedly did, you don't kill someone in cold blood in front of his terrified children. He could have been taken alive, ffs. But this kind of cruelty is par for the course in today's world. We have become so inured to this kind of criminality that it is has become the new normal. Shame on Obama and his murderous agencies.

  • Geoff - 2011-05-13 11:56

      kubs - 2011-05-13 13:03

      Grunk - 2011-05-13 14:00

And you think that your little hate message makes you any better than your typification of a Muslim?

      BoneCollectR - 2011-05-13 15:09

@hellomoto - You, sir, are a moron of note. This is hate speech. You are the reason more Mulsims are joining the "revolution" because of your generalist stupid and hateful comments. Do you feel better now after insulting Muslims and scores of Eastern people? F*k you and have a nice weekend, twat. And no, I am not Muslim.

      Scholar - 2011-05-16 11:30

If you have stool on your hands - do you wipe it with toilet paper or wash it ??

  • Roderick - 2011-05-13 13:00

If a dog bites you, you get your rifle and put a bullet through its brain, no problem, no remorse and no expaining to the world why it needed to be done. Good on the yanks. the reason this has becom a global concern is because of the news. should have dumped his body and kept quiet.

      lenand40 - 2011-05-13 15:25

So, this would be applicable then, to any dog, even a Western dog that enforces regime changes and install dictators, while killing innocent victims?

      Siff - 2011-05-13 15:38

Leave the dogs and cats out of this.

      slg - 2011-05-15 19:32

Lenand, the fact that you see so-called Westerners as dogs says it all.

  • kubs - 2011-05-13 13:43

O yeah the US navy seals are real heroes..24 of them took down an unarmed old man

      Ingwe - 2011-05-13 17:22

Ah at least your are admitting he is down now at least you are slowly seeing the truth

      slg - 2011-05-14 07:25

Start off by saying you got it wrong

  • albird burger - 2011-05-13 14:35

osama, obama, one letter... what a coincidence. saladin lose one the crusaders win one, saladin win one the crusaders lose one. i think a big meteor hit on this planet will do it a world of good.

  • Mr D - 2011-05-13 19:02

Hold it Gent's. I'm a retired SAW SpesOps (SWASPES 1978-1986) and believe me what the SEAL's did is correct. OBL is useless for the CIA or the World for that matter. He is gone and we will never have to worry about HIM again. The war on terrorism will not stop till the US drop something big on the countries that support these al-Qaeda terrorist. Pakistan need to be taught a lesson and the US can do two things, 1 bomb them back to the Stone Age, if they are not already there and 2 take away the billions of dollars they pay them to be friends. Good luck to the US and well done NS-6
