Black voters boo Romney over 'Obamacare'

2012-07-11 21:00

Houston - White House hopeful Mitt Romney ran into a buzzsaw of criticism from black voters Wednesday when he told them he wanted to repeal President Barack Obama's landmark health care reforms.

Romney was met with a loud and sustained chorus of boos - probably the most negative reaction to anything he has said in his year-long presidential campaign - when he brought up his opposition to what he and fellow Republicans call "Obamacare".

"If our goal is jobs, we must stop spending over a trillion dollars more than we earn," Romney told the annual convention of the NAACP, the country's premier civil rights group.

"To do this, I will eliminate expensive non-essential programs like Obamacare," he said.

Before Romney could finish his sentence, the boos rained down loudly, lasting more than 20 seconds.

His comments came at an especially sensitive time. Two weeks after the US Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act as constitutional, the Republican-led House of Representatives will vote on Wednesday on whether to repeal the law.

The repeal bill is expected to pass the House, but will probably die in the Democrat-controlled Senate.

Just like here, all about race. Human nature perhaps?

      captaine.morgan.90 - 2012-07-12 11:20

Or Economics and the Races that have been and still are economically privileged.

I agree. The purpose of income tax is to to fund the police (national security), army (national defence), education, national health services (not medical aid), water affairs, sanitation and similar services. It is not meant to be handed out in the form of social and other grants to the lazy and useless members of society. Fact is, when you take from those that earn and hand it over to those that don't, it is nothing else but theft. I am not talking about those who have physical or mental disabilities!

@captaine.morgan.90 "Or Economics and the Races that have been and still are economically privileged" Or you're a idiot, if your logic held true Africa, north of SA and south of the Sahara would be flourishing due to the absolute lack of white rulers. With vast amounts of natural resources at their disposal and no whites impeding their growth surely there would be peace and economical security all around. Hmm, and the reality for Africa is what? Poverty, war, destruction. Please enlighten us with a fairy tale about how white economy enslaves and robs THEM everyday.

If America stopped funding wars, they would not be in debt.

Yeah. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! To the multi millionaire who can afford any medical attention he wants and could not care a toss about those less advantaged then he is.

  • thisme.thule - 2012-07-12 05:21

Hey zaatheist all members of govt can afford and get the best medical, not just Romney. What I don't get is why people have to pay a "tax" if they dont - or cant afford a medical. I think that's what gets to most people, they shouldn't be 'forced' to take out a medical insurance if they don't want one!!

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. ” ? Margaret Thatcher . The once powerful USA is now a Socialist state. All superpowers fall eventually, some militarily and others economically. Looks like the great welfare state has too many foreign wars to finance. So which will it be?

      sam.goldberg.988 - 2012-07-12 08:26

I've never understood this US idea of socialism. Everybody paying huge amounts of tax to fund the world's most expensive supply of weapons = capitalism. Using that money to provide people with healthcare = socialism. I find it hilarious that the Republican party has convinced all of America's conservative middle classes that the poor should pay more and that the super-wealthy should pay less. They've literally got the people that they're screwing running around protesting on their behalf. You think they don't have a good belly laugh about that?

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-07-12 09:03

Humanity faces a choice, socialism or barbarism, as Rosa Luxemburg correctly stated. "Freedom without Socialism is privilege and injustice... Socialism without freedom is slavery and brutality." Mikhail Bakunin

      Chumscrubber1 - 2012-07-12 09:18

Socialism is a fantastic idea as long as it is not abused. It works brilliantly in some European countries, but citizens need to be proud and have a good work ethic for it to succeed. It absolutely amazes how extremely wealthy people get tax breaks, they already have so much. Capitalism is also only a good system if greed and self indulgence can be controlled.

      Chumscrubber1 - 2012-07-12 09:23

I think sam's point is simple to understand. The Republicans will gladly spend state resources on important things like weapons, rather than waste it on things like proper medical care for those less fortunate. The weapons are not even used to protect the USA, they are used to aquire more wealth for the American super elite. Its so damn obvious. And we criticize the intellect of our electorate!!

      fidel.mgoqi - 2012-07-12 10:00

I find my self pondering whether western armies/forces are still serving, and defending, their nations...

      harley.quin.334 - 2012-07-12 11:35

of course weapons are important, afterall you can't shoot poor people out of a cannon at the dreaded terorists, not even if you paint them as clowns

      jan.vanriebeeck.73 - 2012-07-13 08:08

Hmm, a few things I would like to point out. Under Obama, a DEMOCRAT, the US military expenditure has INCREASED, not DECREASED. The HUGE AMOUNTS OF CAPITALISM FUNDED MONEY the US pay every year to help poor nations ACROSS THE PLANET. In fact the only people to come close to the same amount money for supporting poor countries happen to be CAPITALIST EUROPE.

      AnthonyfromAfrica - 2012-07-13 08:18

Fidel, You just ponder along, maybe, just maybe, you will have pondered soo much , that one day, it ponders in your head, that your murderous hero, this assad terrorist, does not use his army, to defend his country, nor protects its citizens, but to slaughter his 'own' people. Why don't you just ponder off, with your endless BS!!!

"If our goal is jobs, we must stop spending over a trillion dollars more than we earn," - Just like in SA everyone wants a free lunch

      captaine.morgan.90 - 2012-07-12 11:23

Free lunch, or just want to be treated equally, whether Black or White or $Advantaged or $Disadvantaged. If people are $Disadvantaged, It is the social responsibility of the government and the state to provide that equality.

      Chumscrubber1 - 2012-07-12 12:22

In SA our taxes are wasted, they don't go to healthcare and education, or the military. The bits left are put in the pockets of the ruling elite.
