Palmer Park - Police in a Washington, DC, suburb say a 12-year-old boy is being charged with second-degree murder in the beating death of a 2-year-old foster child living with his family.

The boy is being charged as a juvenile and his name is not being released. Spokesperson Julie Parker of the Prince George's County, Maryland, police says the boy's father called emergency services on Tuesday night to report the girl was unresponsive.

The man performed CPR on the child, but she was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Parker says an autopsy confirmed the child, identified as Aniyah Batchelor, died of blunt force trauma.

The 12-year-old, who lives in Fort Washington, was charged on Wednesday and made his first appearance in court on Thursday. He is being held at a youth facility.

If you're big enough to do the crime, you're big enough to do the time.

Good. I'm sorry, but at 12 years old if you are violent enough to beat a toddler (even if he did not realize he could kill the poor toddler) you are more than capable of commiting murder, assault and who knows what else later in life. Lock em up now before they hurt other people.

Unless he's seriously retarded, a twelve year old should know that using a two year old as a punching bag, can kill her. My question is: was this the first time he did anything like this to the little girl? At any rate, we don't know the circumstances and initially the 12 year-old will be charged as a minor. But if circumstances are bad enough, the Maryland courts may have the discretion to try him as an adult -which is as it should be.

lock the little criminal up, or at least make him sit in the corner for the next few years.

Another Ted Bundy in the making? a Normal 12 year old kid doesn’t beat to death a 2 year old for eating his Sour Worms or something like that! Maybe the police can also do a little investigating into child abuse, there is obviously something psychologically wrong with this kid. Maybe abuse is the root of his problems, or maybe he is just a little psychopath.

Some children are born evil. Check out the murder of James Patrick Bulger in 93' by two ten-year olds. Plain evil. Especially Venables was a monster, and he confirmed this after sentencing; he committed further, unspecified very wrongful acts. Then they gave him a new identity. Nice, we don't know where he is, or what he's up to now! The judge called it ""unparalleled evil and barbarity... In my judgment, your conduct was both cunning and very wicked." Ten years old, for crying in a bucket.
