Rio de Janeiro - Police say suspected drug traffickers shot and killed the commander of a police unit in one of Rio de Janeiro's slums.

Captain Uanderson Manoel da Silva was killed on Thursday night during a shoot-out in the Alemao complex of slums.

Police say one man suspected of involvement in the shoot-out has been taken into custody.
