Britain to start lifting flight ban

London - Britain will start lifting a flight ban on Tuesday, starting from 06:00 GMT over Scotland and possibly moving further south later if conditions allow, air authorities said on Monday.

Latest forecasts suggest a "continuously improving situation" as the volcano in Iceland is not now producing ash at altitudes that impact on British airspace, said the National Air Traffic Services (NATS).

Earlier, Germany's aviation authority granted Lufthansa permission to fly 50 long-haul planes back home with about 15 000 passengers.
