Chavez heads home after cancer care

Caracas - President Hugo Chavez on Wednesday announced on the Twitter microblog he was heading home to Caracas after undergoing radiation treatment for cancer in Cuba.

"I am on the plane now! Everybody is feeling happy because we are headed to our beloved Venezuela. Fidel and Raul [Castro] send their greetings! Long live Venezuela," Chavez announced.

On Monday, Chavez said he would be returning to Venezuela on Thursday. While officials earlier said this would be the last round of Chavez's radiation, he said this week he will return to Cuba for yet another one.

Chavez received his second cancer surgery on 26 February after a recurrence in the same area of his pelvis where it was first detected in June 2011.

The 57-year-old Chavez, who continues to run for a third six-year term in the 07 October election, never has publicly revealed the kind of cancer he suffers or its exact location on his body.

The visible face of the international left in Latin America, he is running as a "revolutionary" socialist against centre-left opposition candidate Henrique Capriles, governor of the state of Miranda.

Get well soon El Presidente. Your country needs your wisdom and leadership.

      DSBennie - 2012-04-26 08:54

His country needs is for this dictator to kick the bucket

      Fidel - 2012-04-26 09:11

Unfortunately it seems that so long as the media get away with saying 'dictator' over and over, those too lazy to think for themselves will swallow it as strawberry and cream.

Statistically only 2% survive chemo for more than 1 year. Another dictator out of the way.

      Fidel - 2012-04-26 11:35

Would it be too much to ask for the smallest scrap of evidence with regard to Mr Chavez being a dictator, or is it simply enough for you people to repeat it like a mantra in order for it to be true? The chief characteristic of people like you is the fear of thinking for themselves. You've been given large brains by mistake since a spinal chord would have sufficed, to paraphrase Einstein.

      DSBennie - 2012-04-26 11:53

Under him all opposition in the country has been oppressed and destroyed with brute force, also check reports by HRW

      Gerhard - 2012-04-26 12:14

I see you are now reduced to personal attacks. You obviously cannot face facts. LOL!

      Fidel - 2012-04-26 12:39

What facts have you provided Gerhard? You have been unable to provide any type of coherent argument, other than calling me a propagandist. Chavez has had to survive a coup and a referendum, both sponsored by the US alphabet agencies. In election after election the Venezuelans have voted for Chavez in overwhelming numbers. Bennie you are just spouting what your heard Chavez's opponents say, even if your so called HRW reference were true, surely those arrested would have gone through the Venezuelan due processes. It would be a lot easier to analyse Chavez if there weren't all this media disinformation. Chavez has kept his committments to the poor, both urban and rural. He has reinvested oil profits into his country instead of paying dividends to foreign shareholders(Spanish and American), and this is what pisses off your masters, hence the unrelenting anti Chavez media campaign. Your consent has been manufactured!

      Gerhard - 2012-04-26 15:05

Fidel can you read or just rant and rave?

      Fidel - 2012-04-26 19:49

      Stupid questions have no answers!
